For when you’re running late for the tram and spent all night writing an essay (just kidding, we both know you were on Netflix).
- Moisturize that face!
Chances are that if you had a late night, your eye bags will be big enough to carry your HECS. So moisturize your face, paying close attention to your eye area. To help relieve puffiness and fine lines, pat the moisturizer (or even better, eye cream) under your eyes, and around the corners. The under-eye region is incredibly delicate, so swiping can increase your chance of fine lines. Now that your skin is prepped, the fun part begins.
- All about that base.
I believe that the best base is a no-make-up make-up base. But if you want to go to town with the foundation, go for it babes! The easiest foundation to apply comes in the form of a BB or CC Cream. My favorite is the Bare Minerals Complexion Rescue – it really does just that. The best way to apply it (although don’t tell any make up artists I said this) is with your fingers. So just pop a pea size amount onto your fingers, then rub it in like you did your moisturizer. Add more until it looks like you’ve gotten at least an extra 2 hours of sleep.
Now comes the concealer, aka your life saver. Oily gals and guys, I’d suggest the Nars Radiant Creamy Concealer or the Maybelline Fit Me. Dry people like myself, the Two Faced Born This Way is fab and for a cheaper alternative, try the Rimmel Wake Me Up. Add some under your eye, on your inner corner and any pimples you want to cover up. A Beauty Blender is the fastest way to do this. For a cheaper version that doesn’t cost the amount of 3 Mr.Burgers, try Chichi and Real Techniques.
- Now let’s add a bit of colour.
Everyone who seems to know anything about make-up says that cream products are the best when you’re running late. But I for one suck at cream products, so let’s just ignore that rule. Apply a bronzer of your choice in a three motion, from your forehead, to cheekbones, and then under your jaw. If you contour in the morning, then all power to you! I greatly admire your abilities, but I for one just spilt my coffee on the floor. Then comes blush – peachy pinks tend to be the best at brightening up your face. Nars Orgasm is an iconic, universally flattering peachy pink with a subtle gold shimmer. Swipe it on the apples of your check in an upwards direction towards the top of your ear. Now is the fun part – highlighter! Take a highlighter of your choice (Becca if you’re willing to spend big, or Sleek if you’ve spent too much on food that week) and place it on your cheekbones, your cupids bow, inner eye corner and anywhere else you want to glow like a disco ball!
- Eyes are the window to the soul (or at least looking more alive).
I can’t tell you how to do your eyebrows, ask your beautician or a YouTube video for that. But what I can tell you is that eyebrows are the hardest thing to rush. So do what you can and I’m sure they’ll look 11/10!
Nobody can do a winged eyeliner before 9am. It’s a fact. So I’ve come up with a little routine over the years. Cream eyeshadows are your best friend if your friend likes things done quick and easy. My all-time favourite is the Mac paint pot in Groundwork, and the Maybelline Colour Tattoos are also fab. Apply a liberal amount over the socket and up into the crease. Blend as high as your heart’s content. Continue the smudging on your bottom lash line. Then messily add some eyeliner to your upper lash line and smoke it out a bit. I go for either a black Rimmel liner that I’ve had for about 5 years, or the MAC Modern Twist Kajal Liner in Groundbreaker. Then lather those lashes in mascara and you’re good to go babes!
