Does Scott Morrison’s hair serve as an analogy for his leadership? (A very biased piece!)

TW: Sexual Assault

From the front, our beloved and esteemed leader, Scott Morrison, looks like a man with a full head of hair. However, it is clear upon closer inspection that this is largely a façade as he is rapidly balding from the middle, as well as the sides; much like many of his male colleagues! Now you may be wondering whether this, quite frankly disturbing image, I’ve just put in your head has any correlation with Scotty’s leadership, and I will argue that it very much does!

Firstly, let’s start off with an event that has defined much of Scott Morrison’s leadership, the Black Summer bushfires of late 2019 to 2020. As you may well remember, our dear PM decided that going to Hawai’i was a great idea while his country burned all around him. The famous words of “I don’t hold a hose, mate,” still haunts many communities across our country as well as us radical leftie latte-sipping hippies in the city! The excuse that he couldn’t let his daughters down for their family holiday, was and still remains one of the most pitiful excuses by a leader in response to a national disaster. He didn’t let his daughters down, but he most certainly let his country down. This analogy of Scotty’s somewhat reverse mullet, whereby his ‘business’ or false substance at the front, and absolutely nothing at the back, I feel, is accurate. Even Tony Abbott, arguably one of our worst PM’s stuck around during bushfire seasons and was a volunteer for the RFS, now that’s really saying something!

Secondly, this analogy could be extended to his response to the Brittany Higgins case. The Four Corners interview on the Canberra Bubble helped many of us to see the true colours of many of our politicians as well as the inner workings and dark side of Parliament. The Brittany Higgins case against the staffer who allegedly (this has not been tried in court yet) r**ed her at Parliament House was largely swept under the rug by senior politicians, and Scotty played innocent to the fact that it was only the day that Brittany decided to pursue legal action, that he was made aware of the allegations, despite that his staffers in the Prime Minister’s Office were informed soon after the event had occurred! This receding and wishy-washy attitude once again came to the forefront during the women’s march on the lawns of Parliament House. Politicians from various parties came outside in support of Higgins, as well as the thousands of women gathered in Canberra who had experienced sexual abuse and assault. But where was Scotty? Oh that’s right, he was inside The House, because it was a “security issue” for him to come outside and show his support, and yet women can’t walk alone at night, because it’s a security issue for our safety! Talk about double standards!

Finally, the current pandemic has exacerbated Scott Morrison’s incompetence as our leader, and the hair analogy further acknowledges it! The Ruby Princess was arguably the first blunder made by Morrison, as he alongside the NSW Government decided that it would be all fine and dandy to let hundreds of citizens off the ship and fly back to their various homes around the country; despite many of them coming down with flu-like symptoms during their voyage. It appears, from what we can see in the media, that this increased pressure on Morrison has almost done away with his hairy veneer, and it is clear that there really is a lack of substance all-around! Another point to mention on this topic is the failed vaccine roll-out. We were promised that by the end of the year, most if not all Australians would be vaccinated, however, as we are well aware, this goal won’t be achieved. Stuff ups, miscommunications and conflicting advice, which all stem from the Federal Government, particularly in relation to the AstraZeneca vaccine has made this roll-out a complete joke, and we have become the laughing stock of the OECD. But yet again, our PM comes out with statements and jabs at State Governments and tries to deflect blame in every which way. It is clear that Scotty not only doesn’t hold a hose, but he can’t hold himself accountable for any of his actions, or inactions!

Our Prime Minister’s head of hair will continue to fade away, as I suspect his leadership capabilities may too, as we have seen with these three major events over the recent years; of course, there are many other blunders that are equally as pivotal. The front of the larrikin, self-proclaimed daggy dad is wearing thin, many Australians want a person of action and substance and not a marketing guru or a mate who gives themselves a nickname to “run” their country.
